GARY COOKE

 DEIRDRE O'KANE

ACTOR / COMEDIAN / mc & host

Gary Cooke is one of Ireland’s best-known satirists and comic faces – albeit spotted under a wig on most occasions! As one third of Après Match and a regular with Irish Pictorial Weekly, he has shocked, delighted, and amused the Irish public for more than three decades.

Gary’s work with Après Match has stacked up more than 12 series for state broadcaster RTE, including the award-nominated Après Match Presents Election '82, which aired to both critical and popular acclaim. Après Match has sold out venues all over Ireland including Vicar Street, the Olympia Theatre, and the Gaiety Theatre.

An acclaimed actor and alumnus of the Gaiety School of Acting, Gary has worked extensively in all the major Irish theatres and with many of Ireland’s top award-winning directors. Select credits include IKEANO, MacBecks, and Meet the Quare Fellow. Gary can currently be seen in the role of Brendan Behan in The Confirmation Suite, with celebrated director and long time collaborator Peter Sheridan.

Alongside his work on the stage, Gary is an accomplished writer, having contributed to many of the Gaiety’s annual pantomimes, the comedy musical MacBecks, and satirical play Cinderella, together with esteemed playwright Malachy McKenna.

Gary's quick wit, easy stage presence and improvisational dexterity make him a much requested MC and events host.

Cooke...captures the author’s rollicking personality and gait convincingly, relishing the broad north inner-city Dublinese and bringing the entire story vividly to life. The accent is predictably perfect and the anarchic humour given full rein.
